About

A model of a 4 cylinder internal combustion engine that is powered by photovoltaic solar panels. This is meant to be a speculative design art piece exploring the intersection of sustainable technologies and traditional mechanics. I'm curious in potentially eventually want to map the velocity of the DC engine motor to a data set or sensor (still to be determined but thinking of internet bandwidth or pulse sensor as two leading options at the moment). This documentation includes inspiration, 2D Vectorworks measurements, 3D Vectorworks models, 3D prints and more.

Algorithmic Design

For this assignment, we were tasked with converting p5.js and/or processing sketches into .dxf files that we could open and work with in Vectorworks. My goal was to repurpose some perlin noise sketches into vectors and eventually plot them on a vinyl cutter. The results were mixed - I had trouble converting the entirety of the perlin sketch, it would only render the most recently drawn ring or line. Furthermore, the sketches would render as up to 20,000 objects in Vectorworks so I would have trouble composing them or converting them into lines.
